El DUW 4001 es el final de una línea evolutiva muy específica: la cuerda manual delgada Glashütte. La trazás desde Ferdinand A. Lange (1845) pasando por la era DDR, la fundación de Nomos (1990), los primeros Tangente con base Peseux 7001 modificada (1992), la transición al calibre Alpha in-house (2005), y la integración del Swing System (2014) que convirtió a Nomos en manufactura completa. Punto clave: el DUW 4001 NO es un calibre completamente nuevo — es la designación moderna del manual wind Nomos cuando se le integró el Swing System. Antes de 2014/2017 se llamaba "Alpha". La diferencia funcional: el DUW 4001 tiene escape propio (Nivarox ya no participa) y reserva extendida a 53 h (Alpha tenía 43 h). Mismo chasis, partes críticas distintas.

The DUW 4001 is the end of a very specific evolutionary line: the thin Glashütte manual wind. You trace it from Ferdinand A. Lange (1845) through the DDR era, the founding of Nomos (1990), the first Tangente models on a modified Peseux 7001 base (1992), the transition to the Alpha in-house calibre (2005), and the integration of the Swing System (2014) that turned Nomos into a complete manufacture. The DUW 4001 is the modern designation that gathers all of that: manual, ultra-thin, fully in-house.

Key point: the DUW 4001 is NOT a completely new calibre — it is the modern designation of the Nomos manual wind once the Swing System was integrated. Before 2014/2017 it was called "Alpha". The functional difference: the DUW 4001 has its own escapement (Nivarox no longer involved) and extended reserve to 53 h (the Alpha had 43 h). Same chassis, different critical parts.

Backed by the king of Saxony, Lange sets up the first manufacture. He defines the German style: 3/4 bridges, geometric ribbing, blued screws, gold chatons. It is the technical DNA that every modern Glashütte brand respects — Nomos included.

Founding of Nomos

Roland Schwertner founds Nomos Glashütte. Thesis: affordable German watchmaking with Bauhaus design. No own manufacture initially.

First Tangente · modified Peseux 7001

Rollout across the manual line

The DUW 4001 progressively replaces the Alpha in the Tangente 35/38, Orion 33/35, Ludwig 33/35, Tetra. They coexist for a time — references with solid caseback may be Alpha, newer ones with sapphire caseback are DUW 4001.

Consolidation as the manufacture entry

The DUW 4001 establishes itself as the most accessible full-manufacture German calibre. Tangente 139 at USD 2,620 = the entry point to the Glashütte universe. Versus A. Lange and Glashütte Original (USD 7,500+), Nomos is the only way to enter the "Glashütte" hallmark for under USD 3,000.

¿Por qué un manual wind en 2026?

Espesor: sin rotor automático, el calibre logra 2,60 mm vs 3,20 mm del DUW 3001 (auto sin fecha) y 4,65 mm del Powermatic 80. Permite cajas de 6,2 mm (Tangente 139) — territorio dress watch absoluto.
Reserva superior: 53 h, más que el DUW 6101 (42 h) y el ETA 2824-2 (38 h). Comparable al Powermatic 80 (80 h) sólo en escala, no en ergonomía.
Ritual: darle cuerda 30 vueltas cada 2 días te conecta físicamente con el reloj. No es para todos pero define el "purista coleccionista".

Thickness: without an automatic rotor, the calibre achieves 2.60 mm vs 3.20 mm in the DUW 3001 (auto, no date) and 4.65 mm in the Powermatic 80. It enables cases of 6.2 mm (Tangente 139) — absolute dress watch territory.
Higher reserve: 53 h, more than the DUW 6101 (42 h) and the ETA 2824-2 (38 h). Comparable to the Powermatic 80 (80 h) only in scale, not in ergonomics.
Ritual: winding it 30 turns every 2 days physically connects you to the watch. Not for everyone but defines the "purist collector".

Slightly larger version of the Tangente for medium wrists. Same aesthetic language but proportions with presence. Better fits the 38–40 mm range than the 139 (35 mm).

Thickness goes up slightly (6.9 mm vs 6.2 mm on the 139).
Some refs with solid caseback use Alpha — confirm the calibre designation before buying.

Pure dress · mirror-polished bevels
